A Look At Homeopathic Schools Online
There is so much about the world and our bodies that we don't understand, and unfortunately medical science can't find a cure for some of the most common diseases. Alternative medicine found at homeopathic schools is therefore a way of tackling the problem from a different perspective; by looking at it from the inside rather than facing the symptoms on the outside alone.
At homeopathic schools, you will learn that the body is a remarkable thing; capable of healing itself under the right circumstances if we understand it and give it what it needs. To help people find inner peace and access their own energy which could lead to stronger and longer lives is a worthwhile cause.
Job Description
A homeopath's mandate is to stimulate healing, often by attacking the ailment with the same thing that caused it. Your role will begin with client assessment; conducting detailed interviews about lifestyle, medical history, sleeping patterns, diet and ailments.
You will then diagnose the problem and prescribe small doses of drugs that have the same symptoms as the client has, but that have been well diluted. Your homeopathic recommendation may also be combined with traditional medicine if you see fit. The ailments you could be facing can include eczema, sore throats, fevers, anxiety attacks and arthritis.
Types of Homeopathy
There are different kinds of homeopathy that you can practice, ranging from constitutional, where you give the client one powerful dose of drugs and then wait a long period of time to see if any of the symptoms reoccur, to complex, which is where the drug administered could have up to 25 different ingredients.
This causes lymphatic drainage which drains the toxins from the organs that are affected, and is best suited in cases where the disease is complex and attacking many different areas.
All the substances you use are natural plant, animal or mineral based, so you need to be skilled in blending different ingredients to find the right potency. All of these drugs are manufactured by pharmaceutical companies and regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so they are completely safe and tested.
Education and Requirements
You will need a degree in homeopathic medicine from homeopathic schools accredited by the Society of Homeopaths (SOH) in order to practice this alternative science. If you study a bachelor's degree full time, you can be finished in 3 years, but you can do part time study, or even partial homeopathy online study to accommodate your needs and your schedule.
Homeopathic Schools Curriculum
Your curriculum will include studies in anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, philosophy, emotional awareness, how to communicate, diagnosing and treating patients and principles and values you need to have. Once completed with the theory part of the coursework, you will need to take part in clinical practice that is supervised by a licensed practitioner in a health care clinic.
You can earn a bachelor's of philosophy in homeopathy, a master's of science in homeopathy, or now even a doctor of homeopathy. To get into a post-graduate course, you must have your bachelor's degree in homeopathy first, but it is hard to find a college to offer these degrees. Many homeopaths go on to form private clinics, while others use their homeopathy education in addition to already being a medical doctor, registered nurse or other licensed medical practitioner.
Some homeopathy courses are specifically designed only for licensed medical doctors who want to add homeopathy to their practice. These courses focus less on the medical aspect of diagnosis and more on the administration of the homeopathic medication. When the course is finished, the can be certified by the American Board of Homeotherapeutics, but today there are only 3 states that require licensing: Arizona, Connecticut and Nevada.
Career Outlook
The field of homeopathy is a controversial one, as not many colleges will offer a course in it and many states don't regulate its studies. There are advanced degree levels to obtain though for those interested, although if your needs are as a hobby, you can also take 2-3 day homeopathy seminars.
There is a growing demand in the industry for homeopathic medicine, and if you already work at a medical institute, certification is an asset. A private homeopath will have a low starting salary despite the boost of demand, so it is best to combine these skills with another license. If you want to continue learning about this unique approach to healing, homeopathic schools will give you the training and experience you need to pursue this ancient practice.
